    'Deep Democracy' Conversation on Capitalism

    London, United Kingdom

Capitalism – Here to stay or is there another way?

     The Libor scandal

    Corporations avoiding tax

    Corrupt politicians

As the fallout from the global financial crisis continues, everyone from banks to politicians to corporations like Google and Starbucks have been implicated in fiscal wrong-doing.

Yet capitalism as a financial model is still the predominant global success story.

    Or is it?

If you have a strong opinion on any side of this topic, we invite you to come to this first in a series of conversations.

We're looking for people who work directly within the financial services industry, pro capitalists, anti-capitalists, local politicians and concerned citizens affected either positively or negatively by the capitalist free market system.

The only requirement is that you are willing to listen to other people – and consider opinions that aren't your own.

    About deep democracy

Our aim is to achieve a deeper level of openness and understanding on a contentious subject by involving a wide range of interested parties and creating the framework for a productive and constructive conversation in which all opinions are valued and get to be expressed.

We welcome conflicting opinion as a sign of change wanting to happen. Conflict – when embraced in this way and handled professionally – can bring great creativity.

    About us

Since the London riots in 2011, our group has been running a number of deep democracy conversations around London, including at the Occupy London encampment at St Pauls's in 2012.

Our first conversation – 'Why did the riots start?' – took place in October 2011 at the Peckham Library. Community members, police officers, a local counselor and local youth workers engaged in a passionate dialogue that led to new ideas about how to address current issues in the community.
