Now is the time for a ‘great reset’ of capitalism | World Economic Forum (weforum.org)

Hi robbo203,
During the Covid crisis, I have spent a little time reading up on the third wave capitalism in organisational psych- corporate social initiatives, corp- citizenship and the like. Stakeholder Capitalism has been a buzz word for a bit- we all have skin in the game (black Swan theory- don’t ask) and we invest our labour in the great theatre scripted by ‘the social contract’. Might I add a contract with a rule governed apex: start on top and end on top. Start lower end a little higher. Do your best to follow the rules. (know your place- or lose your place).
The great reset is like the rule of the rump- same again!
COVID has exposed the inequity of capitalism more so. And yet it has appealed to those most exposed to market failure. It has exposed it in so many ways- reset appeals appease, then things settle, them back in business ensues- but with even less protections for the working class. Crisis negotiation when there is a power imbalance is always weighted to those with controlling interests…
After COVID, I wonder how many worker rights would have been eroded for the sake of stay in business…
reset what- serfdom?
I have an image: reforming and resetting puts a little smily face on the boot pressing down on you fingers as you dangle from a cliff. You can see it, and you surrender to the fall. It is a depressing image, but who of us can say on this forum, or who read it, can say that they felt secure ? … Mercedes to food line- Next: who knows- gig life- live to breath or pay to breath, I feel we are alienated from our breath as regarding our life.

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez spent four years arguing against ICE but in this bill, she approved the funding for ICE and the Mexican wall

And to think the American public believe they live under a democracy, MS, when all manner of amendments can be added to a bill, that are totally extraneous to its intent so that any opposition to those ensures you lose what you want to pass. 5000-plus pages to make sure there is no debate and certainly no public scrutiny . Shameful but thy call it a democracy that people say they would die to defend. Who could believe it?
December 24, 2020 at 12:55 am #211455AnonymousInactiveThey always do that, in a bill for foods they always include a provision for guns and killing, in this new bill they are giving away more than 200 billion to the rich peoples and it is tax-free, and in this first bill the same peoples also obtained billions and peoples do not question anything, and a tiny portion of the bill is for the workers.
The Obama Care Act had thousands of pages and hidden within those pages they were a bunch of clauses which favoured the insurance industry. Many Senators approved Trump tax break without reading the provisions of the bill claiming that they did not have time to read it, the real reason is that they were also beneficiaries of the same bill, and they did not care, and the same guys were reelected again. Are they masochists?
December 24, 2020 at 3:32 pm #211478AnonymousInactiveThis bill is a real slam on the face of the working class ( as common dream said ) most provisions hidden in this bill provide more benefits to the capitalist than to the working class
Why don’t they make separated bills ? It will show that the us Congress members are representatives of the capitalist class instead of being representative of the working class,
it is the best way to cheat the working class if they want to increase the salaries of soldiers why they don’t create separated bills for the pentagon and for the civil workers ?
There was an executive order which allow the White House to fire the federal workers at their own will
They can fool the fools

Biden stimulus bill cut in half
December 25, 2020 at 4:32 am #211499AnonymousInactiveAs it was expected the Republicans blocked the $2,000.00 stimulus check and the workers elected all of them as their so-called representative. Millions of peoples are going to run out of money and benefits on 12/31 and probably, millions of peoples are going to be homeless
December 26, 2020 at 7:09 pm #211556AnonymousInactiveI wonder what kind of socialism helped to the development of a vaccine, and what is public funding? The blind guiding the blinds. If vaccines are produced and distributed to produce profits what kind of socialism is this? if the state is financed with surplus-value what kind of public funding is this? It sounded like some leftwingers who have said that there is not economical exploitation and there is not a capitalist class in China, Vietnam, North Korea and Cuba. Workers paradise

Too damn right. Protecting their members is and should be, a priority alongside wages and other working conditions..

“Activists say numerous governments across Asia used the cloak of coronavirus to implement laws, carry out arrests, or push through controversial schemes which otherwise would have sparked a backlash, both at home and abroad.”January 8, 2021 at 5:20 pm #212247AnonymousInactiveAt last, people are told to wear masks at all times outdoors. About time!
January 8, 2021 at 11:42 pm #212257alanjjohnstoneKeymasterJust a bit of an update. A customer at our nearest shopping mall was identified as having Covid. My wife who was present there at about the same time went to hospital for a check although she is exhibiting no signs of the virus. 4 days for the result to be known, (two to go). She is self-isolating.
So far, where i live we escaped the outbreak other than isolated cases in the town itself (returning workers from the capital) and there was no lockdown, although a curfew was temporarily imposed to curtail gathering to drink, a common custom. It was soon lifted.
The immediate effect of this case that the local neighbourhood shops insist upon mask-wearing. No panic, no protests, just common-sense precaution. With a population of about the UK, there has been less only 60-something deaths and far fewer cases. International travel, vital for the tourist industry and migrant workers from neighbouring countries, is heavily restricted. Initially every worker was provided with a hundred-pound plus grant to help bide them over and to re-adjust.

Where? Sounds like fake news.
