Richard Wolff again on capitalism and coronavirus
Not how often he uses the term “private” capitalism as if this re-defines what capitalism is
April 19, 2020 at 1:54 am #199064AnonymousInactiveOne of the main distinction of capitalism is wage slavery. The Soviet Union was a capitalist country and they did not have any private means of production, everything was owned by the state
April 20, 2020 at 12:33 am #199139AnonymousInactiveThis is the analysis made by the International Communist Current on the COVID 19 pandemic and the economic crisis of capitalism
April 20, 2020 at 4:30 pm #199175ALBKeymasterNot too bad. But this struck me. Can somebody quote chapter and verse on it?
”The “war of the masks” as media call it, is an edifying example of this. Each state is grabbing the material it can through speculation, bidding wars, and even out-and-out theft. The US has been nabbing planeloads of Chinese masks promised to France. France has confiscated cargoes of masks heading by air for Sweden. The Czech Republic has seized at its customs barriers ventilators and masks destined for Italy. Germany has made masks heading for Canada disappear.”
Quite believable of course. I wonder whether this is the cause of the delay in the famous air shipment of protective equipment from Turkey. Is the capitalist business selling them trying to extract a higher price? Are they threatening to sell them to a higher bidder? That would be normal capitalist behaviour.

Everything that was hidden now is completely open, and they do not care anymore.
It must show to some fierce nationalists that capitalists and populist leader wil do anything to obtain profits including to sell them as commodity
April 20, 2020 at 6:19 pm #199177alanjjohnstoneKeymasterIt is even worse in the USA where individual states are competing for supplies
April 20, 2020 at 6:33 pm #199178AnonymousInactivePretty soon we are going to see food cards like in Cuba, that is what the leftwingers called socialism or the equality of poverty. I smell state capitalism or nationalization in the air, the so-called neoliberalism is going to be dumped in the trash can. Where are the so-called anarchic capitalists, or the Chicago Boys at the present time? I repeat again, Adam Buick article of December is like an economic prophecy, it should be published on all websites
April 20, 2020 at 7:55 pm #199180AnonymousInactiveLike the old days of the bootleggers when the Sicilian and Canadian mafia smuggled whisky by trucks from one state to another state, and from Canada. The sons of one of those rich smugglers became president, General Attorney and a senator. Like Marx wrote: history repeats, first as tragedy and then as farce
April 20, 2020 at 10:40 pm #199224OzymandiasParticipantWhy does the terminology of the ICC always seem so antiquated? They keep using the word “Imperialism”. I remember buying a copy of their journal “World Revolution” years ago when I lived in Brixton. Not really a journal more of a big piece of paper folded over.
What would be the main differences between them and the SPGB? The Parliamentary Road? Are they just Trots in masks?

There are great differences between the SPGB and the ICC

April 21, 2020 at 7:27 am #199280ZJWParticipantLooking for ‘anarchic capitalists’? Well here for example: http://ronpaulinstitute.org .
Covid-skeptical, broadly along similar lines to what can be seen at https://swprs.org/contact (section ‘Articles on Covid-19’), or at https://off-guardian.org .

Ancaps Ive debated with on FB upheld Sweden as a shining example of a more libertarian approach to the the virus. Now that the number of cases has risen sharply there and th Swedish government has come under heavy criticism. our Ancaps have gone distinctly quiet
April 21, 2020 at 10:22 am #199282OzymandiasParticipantListen thanks for those ICC links Marcos.
