Anyone heard of these guys? I’ve read their stuff and still can’t quite wrap my head around it…..
Sounds like a moneyless society based on…….money?
Flaws and comparisons?
November 9, 2018 at 11:31 pm #156890alanjjohnstoneKeymasterSadly it resorts to the usual leftist menu of reforms like the UBI and digital money and speaks approvingly of Parecon which it may be a re-vamped version of if i knew more about the history of the originators.
Not impressed by the glossy make-over of old ideas rather. In fact, it is full of red herrings and contradictions and misconceptions. Talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk.
One for the bin, although a mercenary person like myself would copy and paste their glossy skillful presentation created by someone experienced in PR and PowerPoint
Good name though for one of our future projects ….Common Planet, we’ll just call it Common World, to avoid plagiarism. (But Robin may offer the use of World In Common.)
November 9, 2018 at 11:36 pm #156891AnonymousInactiveCan you direct me to reading refutations of the ideas as I couldn’t find much about it. Still don’t quite get the idea of replacing money with ‘credit’….what prevents accumulation of weatlh under a different guise?
November 9, 2018 at 11:41 pm #156893alanjjohnstoneKeymasterEven more unimpressed when i checked some of the Twitter account and and invitations to become board members to individuals like Cornel West…
Zeitgeist-clone
November 10, 2018 at 2:57 am #156911alanjjohnstoneKeymasterAnd replace the wages system by “rewards”
New title, old story
The Socialist Stanard has articles on UBI but i wouldn’t bother…they’ll say its not the same…
I would ask if there is not any difference in substance between them and Parecon and Zeitgeist, why are they re-inventing the wheel, wasting resources with duplication, why not add their strength by joining and if necessary advocating improvements to those existing movement for “social change” rather than another minuscule group.
They won’t like us because we are old-fashioned and use divisive words such as class war and socialism and cite Marx rather than people like Chomsky., they are too modern and too clever to accept that others had got there before them…by a century
November 10, 2018 at 5:48 am #156912AnonymousInactiveIt is just another form of Coop similar to Richard Wolf and Parecen. Nothing
new
November 10, 2018 at 7:51 am #156913ALBKeymasterI don’t think that Parecon and Zeitgeist can be linked together. Parecon is a currency crank blueprint for a real dystopia where people spend all their time voting and checking on what their neighbours want to consume. We’ve debated against them both in print and in public:
This from the April 2006 Socialist Standard
And this debate in 2010 against one of those who thought it up:

Zeitgeist, on the other hand, stand for a moneyless world of abundance that is recognisably similar to what we stand for. Having said that, some of them do, illogically, see monetary reform as a transition to this and it wouldn’t surprise me if some of them embraced PareCON as well as UBI as such a transitional reform.

Except that the link doesn’t work, along with several other video and audio ones, at least not on any of my devices.
November 10, 2018 at 6:48 pm #156962AnonymousInactiveIn essence they are all the same, they just want to reform capitalism, like we said in one article: Old ideas that look like new ideas . They just use different brand of manicures and cosmetic. Coop,Common Palnet Parecon, and Zeitgest we can put them inside of a blender and we can get the same juice and the same taste
November 10, 2018 at 7:35 pm #156968PartisanZParticipantI redid this and it presently works.

November 28, 2018 at 2:30 pm #165177AnonymousInactiveDid anyone manage to add our views? Is anyone reading this?
November 29, 2018 at 12:15 am #165552alanjjohnstoneKeymasterI already expressed my reservations on Common Planet, Sussex. I don’t think we would be gaining any influence based on the premise that they are so wrapped up on their own vision they don’t enter existing movements that are very much closer to them than we are.
But perhaps i am being too cynical about the glossy PR image they present.
