    Comrades:

I've been trying to pin down Blair (or was it Campbell's?) comment in the 1990s on the lines that 'New Labour' were going to be following Thatcher's legacy, but Googling doesn't throw it up.

Can anyone point to the quote, and source? (I know that if you want to see his monument, look around you, but it would be handy to have it from the horse's mouth, too).

    Thanks.

    Allen.

Just to bring it up to date, Labour's Hypocrit-in-Chief, Mandelson in todays Guardian

    Quote:
believes that it should not abandon some central truths from the former prime minister’s three general election wins, such as championing aspirational voters in middle England and showing that Labour is on the side of business.

Thanks ALB, alanjjohnstone. The quote I'm after was definitely in the run-up to the 97 election, aimed at the City and its running dogs, on the lines of 'not frightening finance'. (They should have been worried?) I'll keep on looking – one of the mealy-mouthed sons of 'toil' certainly said it. A

There may be a book that can help:The Labour Party PLC / David Osler  ISBN 9781840186000That's from 2002 (I think it may have been reviewed in the standard).  Your local library should be able to get it for you.

Thanks Young Master Smeet. Going to that book on Amazon, you can 'Look Inside' which is a handy tool, as you can put in search strings like 'thatcher's legacy' or whatever. Haven't been able to pin down the quote yet, but I'll keep at it.Thinking what a loss Paul Foot is, for all sorts of reasons, one being that I believe he had an extensive card-index of all such weasley utterances. A
