It seems Stop teh War Coalition have fallen hook line and sinker for Putin's "Antri-fascxist" rhetoric.  It's not like the other side of the civil war and Russia are any better than the Kiev regime.  This is where Trotskyism leads: death to workers.

I thought they always took the Muslim side. They seemed to have forgotten that the Muslims in Crimea wanted to stay part of Ukraine because they felt they'd get a less worse deal there than as part of Russia.

Im not a big fan of AWL but they seemed to put it wellhttp://www.workersliberty.org/node/24716 In the course of 2014 Russia annexed Crimea, encouraged and organised separatist agitation in the south-east of Ukraine, invaded Ukraine in late August, and consistently provided the separatists with some of the most modern munitions and weaponry available. SWC and SARU have therefore decided to picket – the US Embassy!

This si the sort of nonense they are peddling:http://www.stopwar.org.uk/news/ukraine-and-the-new-hitler-fairy-tale-what-lies-behind-the-putin-did-it-conspiracy-theory

    Quote:
However, when a right-wing regime seized power in a violent coup in Ukraine on Russia’s border and then took provocative actions against Ukraine’s ethnic Russians, Putin responded to calls from Crimea – both from its parliament and a referendum – to take the peninsula back into Russia.Putin also feared that the new powers in Kiev might give the historic Russian naval base at Sevastopol to NATO with its nuclear-armed submarines. In other words, as much as the New York Times has bandied about claims of a Russian “invasion” of Crimea, the Crimeans requested Russia’s intervention and up to 25,000 Russian troops were already there in the agreement with Ukraine over the naval base.

The article is right that Russia has reacted to encroachments upon its traditional sphere of influence (or Imperialist Sphere, if you want to speak Trot).  That Russia's attempt to intefere in Ukraine is just as despicable as the NATO/EU's doesn't seem to arise. In the tiny minds of these people, taking sides is what counts, people are dying and they areassisting in the deaths by giving intellectual covering fire.  Worse, under the banner of 'Stop the war' they are calling for, and supporting war, which is going to make the job of future anti-war activists a lot ruddy harder. The need for the workers of Ukraine is peace, now.  A democratic settlement and a touch of freedom.

Intellectual seems a bit generous, isn't it no more sophisticated than 'good guy putin, bad guy nato'?Not so much stop the actual war (invasion of sovereign states) going on as stop the (nato) hypothetical plan.Stop the War Coalition, what a joke. This position might be acceptable to CPB Russophiles like Andrew Murray but I wonder if Tony Benn would have put up with this?

Once again the SWP and their associates simply don't understand or are in accord with their own slogan which they originated during the Korean War…"Neither Washington Nor Moscow but international socialism"How hard is it to simply declare a plague on both your houses…

It was that slogan that first attracted me to the swp. It was their complete failure to have anything to do with it that drove me away.
