May 29, 2012 at 5:16 pm #88491AnonymousInactiveBut some anarchist groups appear to be getting fired up!http://www.rt.com/news/uk-anarchists-police-olympics-340/http://325.nostate.net/?p=5341″In the United Kingdom of clockwork control and domestication, we’re some of the ‘unpatriotic ones’ who find the 2012 Olympics, with the ensuing spectacle of wealth (when so many here struggle to feed themselves and their families), harmful developments and escalating police state, frankly offensive. But no union or movement calls our shots, and we have no inhibition to use guerrilla activity to hurt the national image and paralyze the economy however we can. Because simply, we don’t want rich tourists – we want civil war.”

In reality, however, the state is nothing but a machine for the oppression of one class by another, and indeed in the democratic republic no less than in the monarchy.”- Friedrich EngelsThe 1891 Preface to Marx’s “The Civil War in France”
June 4, 2012 at 8:29 am #88494ALBKeymasterTwo of us braved the patriotic crowds and the weather yesterday to leaflet this. The police had restricted access to the announced meeting place but 200 or so gathered outside the barriers and marched down the street chanting “Monarchy Out, Republic In”. The patriotic crowds were indifferent, presumably regarding it as part of the spectacle. Everybody there must have received either the Queen Capital’s Jubilee and/or the Identity leaflet. They weren’t the usual suspects and seemed a thoughtful lot and I can’t believe that they really think that merely “replacing the monarch with a directly elected, largely ceremonial head of state” (as the leaflet distributed by Republic, the organisers, put it) would make any difference at all, ie they must have other ideas of change too. Anyway our leaflets were well received. We’ll see if they get a response.
