war and trade war
September 27, 2020 at 10:26 am #207177ALBKeymasterThat’s just what is to be expected under capitalism and I am sure it is true that the military is seeking to use the technology for lethal purposes. But that’s the same with any new technology. Capitalism will misuse it, either for commercial or military ends.
5G technology allows faster data collection and analysis and will be an essential part of what comrades Rozanov and Shannon outlined computers could do in a socialist world. So we mustn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Incidentally, as I think has been pointed out here before, those behind that site and video are notorious conspiracy theorists and fake news distributors. See:

Anything Michel Chossudovsky is associated with should be looked on with suspicion.
September 27, 2020 at 11:50 am #207178J SurmanParticipantI agree with your first two paras ALB, however as far as conspiracy theories go I believe we should be prepared to seek out information that doesn’t get an unbiased coverage in MSM, much of which presents limited and clearly biased coverage of events.
The BBC, Guardian, etc have an agenda and fail to cover topics which don’t fit that agenda. I prefer to check out individuals I have learnt to trust over time because they have been proved to be accurate in their coverage most of the time.
Some examples – Jonathan Cook, Media Lens, John Pilger, Grayzone.
I notice that a number of SPGB members regularly give links to the Guardian, BBC, Telegraph, etc, but are we expected to take those as accurate information?
One only has to check out the coverage, or almost no coverage of the current Julian Assange case on MSM which is surely one of the most important cases ever for press freedom – and so little of it is being covered.
Unfortunately journalists and presenters are paid to toe the line, if they don’t they’re out on their ear. So they know what they have to do to keep the pay cheque coming in.

This is one of the most glaring examples of the lack of so called journalistic integrity and solidarity I have seen for a long time.

There is daily coverage of the trial here
September 27, 2020 at 2:05 pm #207186J SurmanParticipantYes thanks Robbo, I know that – but how much on/in UK media. Binoy Kampmark and Craig Murray are publishing each day. Jonathan Cook frequently. John Pilger went to the court on day 1 but was not allowed access. He made a speech outside the court and has also written about it. Only six people were allowed in court (family members, for which C.M. got a pass) . The ‘press room’ on video link had very few attendees. Banned were Amnesty, Reporters without Borders and other similar organisations.
Sorry, don’t want to derail the thread, but this is important.

True. So much for the concern of press for press freedom
September 27, 2020 at 7:22 pm #207194alanjjohnstoneKeymasterBest coverage
At the time the mainstream media were all very happy to use Wikileaks and if the same standard of justice were to be applied they would all be in the dock with Assange

October 8, 2020 at 6:49 am #207923J SurmanParticipantI think we’re on the wrong thread? – but hey ho here we go – another independent journalist here , Jonathan Cook, on Monbiot’s attitude to the Assange case:
George Monbiot’s Excuses for Not Speaking out Loudly in Defence of Assange Simply Won’t Wash
October 8, 2020 at 10:40 am #207952alanjjohnstoneKeymasterJanet, i think we are also guilty of not offering a degree of solidarity to Assange by not having a dedicated topic and its own thread. 😥
We represents the worse of the media hypocrisy reporting, being hung out to dry by the very people who used his whistle-blowing work to increase their circulation.

What is stopping you from opening one?
October 8, 2020 at 1:37 pm #207966alanjjohnstoneKeymasterA typo///”We” should read “he”

October 9, 2020 at 5:39 pm #208064AnonymousInactiveDonald Trump rejected 5G due to national security concern, but now Apple is going to be using 5G on their new iPhone. Like they say in regard to the drug traffick: The CIA and the DEA do not like competition
