In order to facilitate the broadest possible democratic debate/discussion on this issue I will post the Two reports of the 2017 Audio Visual Committee on this issue Audio Visual Committee (2017) Re: Item 6(b)iii February EC Minutes On 21st Feb 2017 the AV Committee agreed on this Report “AV Committee to look into the costs and potential format and content of a ‘whiteboard’ (or similar) style of animated video, commissioned from an outside agency.” It is claimed that short ‘whiteboard’ videos help get complicated ideas across in a simplified and interesting way. They can bring the message to life, making it easier to understand and the audience is likely to retain more of the information. Optimum length for attention and impact is claimed to be 90 secondshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzeMaKlOGXg Outsourced Video Production vs In-house Video Production Outsourcing Pros· High-quality video production – A professional video production company has both experience and resources. · Access to professional actors and voice-over artists· Access to the latest equipment Outsourcing Cons· Lack of agility, since it takes more time to make changes· Not good for spontaneous work, such as videos playing off a trending story· Limited quantity, since you only get the number of videos you pay for. . · The producers will be less knowledgeable about our case for Socialism· Expensive: £25 per second upwards. Depending on quality required In-house Pros· Flexible and Spontaneous· Can create any number of videos· Strong familiarity with the subject – Socialism· Able to create a variety of video styles In-house Cons· Untrained or semi-trained video editors can take much, much longer to do a simple job. · Quality limitations. Non-professionals results in lower-quality· May have a less polished look Recommendations1. The Party produces an introductory video for use on social media and the party’s websites. Newcomers are more likely to watch a short video than any other format. 2. We propose the first video is 90 seconds to 2 minutes long, introducing the party and our case. (Should include a method to monitor the impact of the video) 3. That the Video is initially produced in-house and then outsourced to a professional video producing company to have it ‘redone’ if necessary and professionally finished. (in negotiation with the company) 4. The Committee will submit a draft to the EC for approval with a quote to outsource the final edit, and perhaps it could be ready for the 2017 Conference if required. 2017 Audio Visual Committee
