I would tend to agree.  I'm also concerned by the length of time it's taking to 'remodel' the website.  In January of this year we were assured that the revamped site would be up and running "this year definitely".  Well, this year is rapidly drawing to a close.

Looks like we could possibly animate but that we need professionals to draw original art. We also must emulate the Harvey and Zizek animations insofar as using existing talks as the audio. These are the successful animations and deviating from this model would be defeating the purpose.

The website is being remodelled anyway, as we speak. Sometime in the New Year. You'll see that on the front page we have live feeds into blogs which update all the time

Which "blogs" are you referring too. If it's going to look like the front page of the WSM site here:http://www.worldsocialism.org/I don't think this would be the best use of our front page. What's wrong  with thee present one highlighting articles from the Standard?

No I didn't mean that for SPGB. I meant as it is presently. It's only SOYMB headline links. Those update automatically. I got mixed up as we do a different feed iin WSM site. That is overdue an overhaul.

Will the existing  audio be of high enough standard? And I thought we were talking about short two minute videos. Not sure where that has come from as it is not in the resolution.Either way, 'professionals' will need a storyboard from us. Can you give a link to examples, please

Do you not find these a lttle too 'busy' and cluttered.'Videoscribe' has a lot of ready-made drawings and images, probably 100s

    2.8 million views suggests otherwise

This is pretty simple but it could be a starting point  and could probably use  a voiceover.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzLMAQ1bWVE&feature=youtu.beNB Made sure I didn't mention the Party

Can I pitch in, if there is any party work worthy of a video/whiteboard it should be Socialism as a Practical Alternative?  (I don't mean, necessarily verbatim, but as the underlying basis for something).  What grabs the Zeitgeist crowd is the notion of a plan, and since we're in the business of putting the positive case for socialism, I thinkt hat is where a video is based placed.  I'll see about asking my branch to put something to conference to this end, but I'll float it here too.http://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/pamphlets/socialism-practical-alternative

YMS. What length video do you have in mind?Obviously we would need to come up with a condensed version of said text. .Perhaps someone may be willing to get to work on this. But I think it is a good idea.

Well, BBC speaking speed is 200 words a minute, which would mean reading the pamphlet aloud would take 1 hour.  So, taking the nine chapters as a start, we could do it in 10 minutes within about 200 words per section, which is doable.  Lets say 20 minutes, though, to go into details where necessary.

The more views on this the better, but I personally disagree with 'Socialism as a Practical Alternative'. It might lend itself to painting a picture, but it is largely schematic conjecture, the kind of which Marx might have called cook-shops of the future.

    Quote:
Local food production might require tractors. Regional manufacture would produce and assemble the component parts of tractors for distribution to local communities. These would be required in a definite number and therefore a definite number of required component parts would also be known.Again, the tractor-producing plant would communicate these requirements to its own suppliers. Eventually this would extend to world production units which would be mining and processing the raw materials, such as metals, required for tractor production. This could be a self-adjusting system of production for use. It would operate with the communication of needs expressed as required quantities of materials and goods, at the local, regional and world levels.

I think thats an excellent idea. You could work in the argument about socially useless labour as that as surely the most significant pracitcal advantage that socialiism has over capitalismhttp://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/forum/general-discussion/socially-useless-labour Photoshoots of City workers commuting into the City  to do their stint of socially useless labour wouldn't go amiss

I too concur with the idea of using material out of Socialism as a Practical Alternative.  Quite true that much of it is schematic conjecture but this is absolutely essential in order to put meat on the bare bones of our case: it stops short, however, of giving actual "recipes for the cookshops of the future".
