Jacobin issue 23 titled 'The Party We Need' has an article 'A Blueprint for a New Party' which argues for 'a national organization would incorporate as a 501(c)4 social welfare organization, permitting it to endorse candidates and engage in explicit campaigning, while accepting unlimited donations and spending unlimited amounts on political education.'

    https://www.jacobinmag.com/2016/11/bernie-sanders-democratic-labor-party-ackerman/

    Quote:
The party’s members are its sovereign power; they come together through a sense of shared interest or principle. Through deliberation, the members establish a program to advance those interests. The party educates the public around the program, and it serves, in effect, as the lodestar by which the party is guided. Finally, the members choose a party leadership — including electoral candidates — who are accountable to the membership and bound by the program.

Might be my lack of knowledge but i found this article simply failed to catch my interest, perhaps because it failed to recount the rich history of attempted labor parties and third parties that the American left have attempted over the decades. To simply concentrate on one, seems to me to read like a bit of a pet hobby-horse of the author's

In the USA,  the so called Party building  has been tried for many decades, from different directions, from different tendencies, by different leaders, and all them have failed or they have vanished, It  can be applied to this  Confucian thoughts of Mao Tse Tung:  "Let a thousand flowers bloom, a hundred schools of thought contend" The Party already exists, and it is there, they only have to put  it on Drive  gear. It is the only political institution based on genuine socialist principles

How do you put genuine socialist principles in drive gear and stop them vanishing in the USA?

The Socialist Party has never vanished, it has been there for many years.  The so called third party in the US is just another capitalist or reformist party. The WSPUS probably does not have the resources like all the others parties, but it is not a reformist institutions like all the others

I do not think you understood what it was written. The Socialist Party was built around 100 years. The left wingers have tried to build their own version of   the so called socialist or communist party, or vanguard party,  based on Leninist principles. . The Party already existed before all those intents.  Klonksy and his group ( CPML)  tried to build a party, The COUSML tried to build another party, the MLPUSA tried to build their own party, The Trostkyst ( James P Cannon )  movement,  etc, etc, etc,

There is a book already written about the history of the WSPUShttp://www.wspus.org/2016/07/the-world-socialist-party-of-the-united-states-turns-100/http://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/socialist-standard/2010s/2010/no-1276-december-2010/book-reviewshttp://www.wspus.org/sample-page/a-brief-history-of-the-wspus/

Out of the USA and within the Americas there was an intent or a group  which tried to form a genuine Socialist Party and it was in Jamaica, the rest of all political parties that have existed in all the Americas ( except Canada  ) are reformists or Leninist parties. and they have been thru the same process like in the USA, including Cuba,  and Grenadahttp://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/socialist-standard/1980s/1981/no-918-february-1981/obituary-george-dolphy

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but simply because someone tried to build a party calling itself 'socialist' doesn't make that party reformist, how do you think the WSPUS or SPC came into being? The WSPUS (nor the SPGB) weren't even the first parties calling themselves 'socialist' in their respective territories and both were founded by members of other 'socialist' parties.

The companion parties of the WSM must smell the coffee and stop the cockfight and bullfight  because there are a lot of young peoples looking for information about Socialism. Like someone told me many years ago: When they move, they really move, the question is: Are you ready when they move ?  I read on the website of the WSPUS that some old inactive members want to be active again, and some members of others companion parties wanted to be transferred

@Mcolme1,You keep coming back to the repeated failures in the past.  there's approaches to repeated failures I'd like you to consider.  Have you thought of the analogy of the internal combustion engine? Each explosioin in the piston chamber explodes, but ultimately dies out.  This is like socialism attempts that never seem to last long.  BUT, it's not always relevant if something lasts for ever.  Sometimes it's only necessary that their are enough new attempts to maintain the machinery of socialism.  Suppose in one decade you have 5 socialist experiemental societies started and a different 5 fail.  That's breaking even.  So if you can't stop the socialist societies from failing for one reason or another, maybe you don't have to stop them from failing.  Maybe instead of a way to stop socialism experiments, you need a way to start two new socialist experiments for every socialist experiment that fails.

There was about five "socialist" experimental societies started in the decade of the 1820s.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owenism#United_States_of_AmericaIt would seem pointless to keep repeating those failures.

If you do not even know what Feudalism is,  How can you give lectures on Socialism ?  A society based on Common Possession of the means of prodution, and without wage slavery has never existed after capitalism. If you think that socialism is a failure, What the fuck are looking for in this forum ? Go and take your stupidity to another place. Vin who is a sociaist was suspended from this forum, but this idiot is permitted to  repeat like a parrot al these nonsenses

When you were reading Tom and Jerry,  I was reading and studying Marx and Engels. Your analogy does not apply to the case of socialism, When we do not know the history of any event it is better to be deaf mude, or to  shut up, or to take the notebooks to learn something new

Have you studied and read the history of US socialism and Marxism ? Have you studied the history of the different groups that have existed in the USA ?  Have you studied the history of the US socialsit party and the history of the SL of America ? Have you studied the history of the Maoist and Hoxhaists groups in the USA ?  The WSPUS has existed for more than 100 years and they did not supoort WWI and WWII, and any others crimianls wars called good wars
