Started this thread so that our Canadian comrades and visitors can keep us abreast with developments in the election campaign.

It seems it will be close election.

The current PM Harper is very much in the mould of Australia's Abbott…very right wing. I know little of the opposition candidates.

Another left drift taking place?"New Democratic Party has held seats in Canada’s Parliament for decades but never taken power. Now, an election campaign which started a week ago presents supporters with the tantalizing possibility that – finally – the NDP has a legitimate shot at forming a national government, and of turning Canada away from the rightward course set by prime minister Stephen Harper." http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/aug/07/tom-mulcair-and-canadas-progressive-democrats-lead-push-for-change

About another month to go to the big dayhttp://www.rt.com/op-edge/315260-canada-elections-harper-conservatives/This is a sceptical report on the NDP – " a reincarnation of the previous liberal failure to present a coherent vision of change that works for ordinary Canadians."In Canada too, there is a shift to the Left and the reason offered by this article – "a widely held sentiment of an ABC approach ("Anything-but-Conservative") "

This was the reason why some of our sympathisers supported Corbyn's bid to become Labour leader — that he would never agree to bombing anywhere.  No doubt he wouldn't but there are still some (many?) on the Labour benches who do want Britain to join in the bombing frenzy in Syria.
