    All you need is Gove.

So, he was to end Comman Agricultural Policy subsidies, and replace them with environmental stewardship payments, and transitional support, to move to a more productive farming economy:

On technology, we should build on the innovations pioneered by our superb higher education institutions like Harper Adams University by investing more in automation and machine learning, moving from the hands-free hectare to the hands-free farm, with drilling, harvesting, picking and packaging all automated, precision mapping of every inch under cultivation with targeted laser treatment of pests and weeds and highly-focussed application of any other treatment required. We should invest more in the sensor technology that can tell where, when and how livestock should be fed, housed and bred to maximise both yield and individual animal health and welfare.

Also, note the move away from immigrant labour models.

Of course, this is the shiny spin, the proof will be in the detail…

I note that the farmers who got the CAP subsidies are still to receive them for at least another 5 years.http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-42559845To relate it to another thread, i see some of the pay-out is to curtail farming and return fields to meadows. But i suspect that article omitted to say that most of the cash from the EU goes to the few giant commercial land-owners
