Abortions after 20 weeks have been banned in South Carolina since 2016.
The “Personhood Act of South Carolina” seeks to end all abortions, including those that would terminate pregnancies that result from rape or incest. The bill would “extend legal rights to fertilized eggs at the moment of conception.”
The bill’s proponent, Richard Cash, responded to a theoretical example in which an 11-year-old was impregnated after a rape: “If a child is raped, yes, that is a horrible act,” Cash said. “Two wrongs don’t make a right. You cannot erase the rape by killing the child. The child is an innocent person,”
The Personhood Act is supported by Governor Henry McMaster, who stated during his State of the State speech in January, “I believe that human life begins at conception. That’s why, in August, I directed state agencies to stop providing state funds to abortion clinics. This right to life is the most precious of rights, and the most fragile. We must never let it be taken for granted.”
There is another piece of embattled legislation currently in committee, titled the South Carolina Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act. The bill seeks to outlaw an abortion procedure that,“doctors consider the safest method of second-trimester abortions.”

We came from invertebrate in certain moments we are amphibious. Fish. Birds reptiles and then we become human being. Our cardiovascular system comes from inferior animals and then it developed into a closed and complicated system If a fetus is a human being why the si called pro life do not adopt one ? They worry about the fetus but they support wars ,fascism , and they do not care about the death and the killing of children produced by wars hunger and diseases They support the armed forces the guns manufacturers and the possession of guns They do not support babies they hate women and most are men with reactionary and cavernicole mentality

It can be genetically edited to correct hereditary diseases In the future scientists are going to be able to regenerate organs and pro life are against the research on stem cells because they do not have a clue about embriology and regenerative medicine

March 13, 2018 at 10:30 pm #132091alanjjohnstoneKeymasterEl Salvador has had a total ban on abortion since 1998. Since then dozens of women have been accused of having illegal terminations after experiencing obstetric emergencies, and later have been convicted of homicide.Marroquín became pregnant in 2003. Shortly before reaching full-term, while working as a housekeeper, she experienced pregnancy complications that resulted in a late-term miscarriage. Without any witnesses or direct proof, she was convicted of aggravated homicide and sentenced to 30 years in prison.“It is inconceivable that Maira spent almost 15 years in prison for experiencing a pregnancy complication. Although she has been released, her conviction has not been overturned and she continues to be guilty in the eyes of the law.”“The Center for Reproductive Rights will continue to shed light on the human rights violations caused by El Salvador’s abortion ban,” said Catalina Martínez Coral, the organisation’s regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean. “We stand with our global and local partners and will not rest until abortion law reform is a reality, and women’s reproductive rights are protected and respected.”https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2018/mar/13/el-salvador-woman-jailed-stillbirth-set-free-maira-veronica-figueroa-marroquin
March 15, 2018 at 9:36 pm #132092AnonymousInactiveIn reality, it is an attack on women. If men were allowed by nature to get pregnant they would be the first ones shouting on the street to legalize abortion. If a fetus is human being why the so-called pro-life do not adopt one of them?
March 15, 2018 at 10:56 pm #132093alanjjohnstoneKeymasterI have seen this hypothetical argument put.In a fire, you rush into a Planned Parenthood clinic to rescue those trapped…you find a month-old baby and also a number of recently aborted frozen but still viable fetuses. You can help just one baby to safety or hundreds of embryos, not both….what is your choice?
March 18, 2018 at 1:23 am #132094alanjjohnstoneKeymasterThe Government is using “devolution as an excuse” to avoid liberalising abortion laws in Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland has some of the strictest laws on abortion in Europe, as women are banned from getting terminations in all but the most extreme circumstances. Rape and incest are not deemed valid reasons for seeking abortions. Pro-choice campaigners said lives were being put at risk by “antiquated, offensive laws” in Northern Ireland. The UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (Cedaw) recently declared that thousands of girls and women were being exposed to “horrific situations”, either by being forced to carry pregnancies conceived through rape and incest to term or having to travel to procure legal abortions. It said the UK routinely violates the human rights of Northern Irish women by restricting their access to abortion.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/government-devolution-northern-ireland-abortion-reform-theresa-may-dup-a8258841.html

These 'antiquated, offensive laws' save lives. The lives of the yet to be born.

March 19, 2018 at 12:30 am #132097alanjjohnstoneKeymasterQuote:Clearly there are very real medical and ethical problems involved in the question of abortion and ultimately it is for the individuals themselves to decide. However, these problems are exacerbated because of the nature of the society in which we live. In a sane world, probably no one would opt for abortion as a method of contraception. The fact that women are forced to do so in present society says something about that society and the conflicting pressures to which people are subjected; for example the cost and responsibility of parenthood, the ambivalent attitude towards contraception advice for young people and the lack of resources that are devoted to researching and developing new, safer and more effective alternatives to present methods of contraception.http://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/pamphlets/women-and-socialism
Quote:Abortion is a very serious issue and should not be viewed as an extension of the means of contraception. Today, these latter means are generally readily available. This writer feels that, where a sexually-active couple wants to avoid what is a traumatic experience, especially for the female partner, then there is a responsibility to avail of suitable means of contraception. Ultimately, this is simply respect for the female participant in the sex act and this respect should be a fundamental aspect of sex education. Unfortunately, many of those who support the so-called “pro-life” stance are bitterly opposed to sex education beyond the most vague biological facts. As we have already observed, they are the same people who have fought a bitter rearguard action against the easy availability of contraceptive devices. As far as their opposition to abortion is concerned, most of the religious “pro-lifers” are less concerned about human life and more concerned with religious strictures…Socialists can respect the views of people motivated by the idea of protecting all forms of human life out of regard for the supremacy of humanity. That after all is what Socialism is about. Unfortunately, most of those within the so-called pro-life organisation are concerned more with the strictures of religious leaders and less with genuine concern for human beings.March 19, 2018 at 5:56 am #132098AnonymousInactivegnome wrote:Rusty Pigfumbler wrote:How is the life of a pregnant woman at risk because the pregnancy is due to rape or incest? There are many places where peoples can not buy contraceptive, or they do not have access to that kind of preventive method, and most peoples are influenced by religious belief, and most religions motivated peoples to avoid using the contraceptive. The Vatican has said that a Condon is not a safe mean against HIV, what the hell do they know about sex and family affairs? They can not even provide advice on masturbation. Abortion is not a legal, moral, or medical problem, it is a social problem which falls mostly on women
