The Prison Industry in the United States: Big Business or a New Form of Slavery?

With the deportation and encarcelation of Mexican workers, the jails and detention center are in full capitacity. Corporations that are running the jail system are celebrating the new Immigration measures because they are going to make large profits with the suffering of poor workers

The 'new immigration measures' is just the federal government enforcing the law, particulary focusing on felons. I don't understand why you would have any sympathy for someone who immigrated illegally and commited a felony, its like spitting on your face while you welcome them in with open arms.

If you support the USA goverment, you are supporting the biggest felon that exist around the worldAlso you forgot the real issue. Jails are run by corporations to profuce profits, therefore, the more people they try to deport more profits they can make, and you are not making any penny in that type of business. It is just the slave defendind his or her master

I don't want to place words into Mcolomes mouth but he is probay referring to the for profit detention centers used to house undocumented migrants. ICE are required to detain 34,000…a captivemarket (pun intended) for the private prison industry whose shares rose because of the election of Trump. There is little need for detention.Nine of the ten largest ICE detention centers are private and stricter the enforcement of immigration law, the better these businesses benefit.Private prisons hold about 8 percent of the country’s inmate population. On the other hand, private prisons and county jails hold 90 percent of immigration detainees. Even in facilities owned by ICE, many of the operations are carried out by personnel contracted from private companies .Carl Takei, staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union’s National Prison Project, said while investors stand to profit, they shouldn’t lose sight of what he calls the moral issues wrapped up with the private prison industry. “No matter what they say about being a government services company or providing valuable services to government agencies, this is a business model that doesn’t need to exist,” Takei said. “It represents the outsourcing of an essential government function to for-profit companies that have a fiduciary responsibility to shareholders, but not to the the public.”  “The contracts make it clear that this is about commodifying human beings,” the ACLU’s Takei said. “The government specifies they will deliver a certain number of units to the private prisons. The units in this context are human beings.” You want to define them as felons and criminals but Trump ordered ICE to prioritize deporting not only immigrants who been convicted or charged with crimes, but also those who had "committed acts that constitute a chargeable offense"—a category that could include entering the country illegally and driving without a license.

I get that private prisons are basically slave pens but I don't understand why anyone would defend drug-dealers,rapists, or murderers and advocate not enforcing the law against these people.

In the same way that I do not understand why millions of peoples will defend invaders that have killed millions of peoples around the world, and presidents that have make drug alliances with major drug dealers such as Pablo Escobar, and  presidents that never went t taken to jail, compare to Ronald Reagan, el Chapo is a retailer, and banks which their main depositor and customers are drugs dealers, and a goverment that produce coup d'tats and have overthrown elected presidents, and have installed dictators, and presidents thtat make alliances with terrorists,  approve the killing of peoples like a head hunter, corporations that steal and rob the natural resources of others nations, and for that, they have killed millions of peoples. The problems is to  criminalize a whole population for the act of a small group of peoples, and some parrots will repeat the same arguments of the ruling elite. Corporations that run a ring of child prostitution, senators that use the same of prostitutions in order to have sex with ittle girls, and peoples vote for them. Presidents who have used invasion in order to increase the traffic of drugs to produce profits for individuals dealers and corporations. One of the oldest drug dealer was a lawyer known as Benjamin Franklin who represent the corporation the were dealing with opium thru England and China, and the commodity was called tea

Thanks that is part of my argumentationBesides that, some of those corporations that run the private jail they gave financing for Trump campaign, because they were in the process of going into bankruptcy due to the fact that the goverment of Obama was trying to stop the proliferation of private jail,Those corporations are the same ones that want to privatize the educational system and run school like corporations, the same corportations that run the private army of mercenary to combat and kill peoples in others countries, and produce massacresThose corporations are training an army in Latin America to replace one of their allied known as ISIS in case that they become oppositor like they did in Benghazi, the members of that mercenary army  are poor unemployed workers, paramilitary and all kind of criminals that they find ready to fighjt.Like the concentration camp installed in Guantanamo, Falluyah, in secret places in Europe. It is an old practice initiated by the School of the Americas, in Panama ( known as the school of assasins ) the founder of La Cuarenta a center of torture that has nothing to envy to the Nazi cocnentration camp, the same ones that run the criminal operations in Central America directed by a famous Amabassador known as Negroponte, and the same one that run the operation in Argentina and Chile. The history is long. They can fool the fools, but not the peoples that study history instead of reading comics books

You have not given your definition of felony yet. It was the argumentation in another message, and there were some question of felonies  to be answered . Also those measures are not new, they were also applied during the goverment of Barack Obama . The other question is why a slave would have sympathy for his/her own exploiters and masters ?

CP,  we all know that totalitarian states are very disingenous when they introduce draconian legislation. They are never open about who they seek to target.  Trump is using fear of rapists and murderers to remove people who are of no threat, at all, to others. To quote from the link to the directive.(a)  Have been convicted of any criminal offense; (my emphasis)(b)  Have been charged with any criminal offense, where such charge has not been resolved; (my comment – not yet found guilty by a court, simply charged)(c)  Have committed acts that constitute a chargeable criminal offense; (my emphasis on the vague definition…jay-walking?)(d)  Have engaged in fraud or willful misrepresentation in connection with any official matter or application before a governmental agency; (such as trying to get around rules by saying you are not undocumented such as using fake social security number to get a job )(e)  Have abused any program related to receipt of public benefits; (by pretending to be eligible as so many native-born do when claiming benefits)(f)  Are subject to a final order of removal, but who have not complied with their legal obligation to depart the United States; (Trying to evade deportation orders)Trump has from the very start tried to conflate the serious criminals with ordinary and the vast number of decent migrants. We shouldn't be taken in by the deliberate propaganda. The Directive is aimed at ALL immigrants, not the dangerous ones.Perhaps you have already seen this storyhttp://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Undocumented-Woman-with-Brain-Tumor-Removed-from-North-Texas-Hospital-414651843.htmlAs for ICE's assurance that she will receive appropriate medical treatment in detention…you must know in your gut that it is a false promise.

Like the young peples  that are incarcelerated in Guantanamo. No charges have been presented in any court. They do not have any lawyer and any lawyer that tries to defend them will be considered a terrorist. They have not established any jurisdiction. It is legal system based in suspiccion but not in evidenceUndocumented workers are not allowed to receive public assistance they must be a permanent residence and they need a social security account number. It is only a fucking lieThe biggest incidence of rape takes place within the white population and they have better posibility of avoiding incarcelation and parole. Most family violence occur within the white populationMost of the drug abuses take place within the white population The traffic of drugs increased after the invasion of Haiti and afghanistanThe USA territory is the biggest planter and producer of marihuana and price of Mexico droppedThere are more Mexican returningo to Mexico than going into the usaThe immigration of us citizen to Mexico. Costa Rica. PR canada and dominicanRepublic has increased

Trump is bringing law and order back into Washington that is a good thing. Enforcing the law when it comes to immigration will be a good thing for both the USA and mexico when it comes to wages, secerity, and identity theft prevention. You may have empathy for people who come into my country and make a living from killing people with drugs like heroine but I don't. Not saying they are all hard criminals but alot of them are and its insanity to let them into our country.

I'm not going to accept that you honestly believe this, CP.  You seem to be a thinking personBut reflect…His earlier directive was found to be illegal and unconstitutional by federal judges, and seen to drafted with little thought for the law. His picks for some very important government agencies are of lobbyists who are intent upon dismantling many protective laws to permit certain corporations more of a free hand. Rick Perry has advocated shuttering the Department of Energy he’s slated to lead. Betsy DeVos, who would head the Education Department, is a leading proponent of voucher programs that divert taxpayer funds from public schools. Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt has repeatedly sued the Environmental Protection Agency and describes himself as a “leading advocate against the EPA’s activist agenda.” Ben Carson has criticized Housing and Urban Development rules designed to combat segregation in housing. Puzder has fought labor rules intended to protect workers. You may consider de-regulation as desirable but of course what is de-regulated is chosen politically to represent the interests Trump seeks to attract.

Is that the only one? If you do not know the criminal history of the us ruling class and its goverment you should embark in some reading about that particular topic  because most people around the world know that history I know that since I was 16 years old
