We constantly get news information that portrays Russia negatively in creating regional instability and moving nukes close to their western borders.

People can perceive this new information differently depending on where they live and their political and geographic history of dealing with Russia.

Unlike in Western Europe, many people that live in areas bordering Russia have experienced major historical conflicts that have shaped their geographic borders and political beliefs.

In Ukraine, people will view Russia more disfavourable compare to France.

Many people in Western Europe have never experienced the same historical conflicts Poland, Moldova and Ukraine had in fighting Russian aggression.

They have never been forcibly Russify like in some areas of Eastern Europe. They have never been politically manipulated or influenced like in some areas of Eastern Europe (Ex: Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus).

When looking at Europe’s previous historical map features from centuries ago, many nations (Sweden, Germany, Turkey, Austria-Hungary) that previously border Russia no longer do so.

Besides the geographic border changes, there have been demographic and cultural changes that have favoured Russia politically and geographically.

Many people in Western Europe have never felt this impact, but I have. I am part of those minorities that is loosely associated with the Belarusians and can speak Belarusian.

In Belarus, the region has been heavily Russify and the Russians have managed to suppress the Belarusian culture and language.

I have had some contact with people in Belarus and whenever I speak to them in Belarusian, they can’t respond to me.

There are some chances that language could go extinct since it’s unpopular and many people in that region have been exposed to the Russian culture and language for centuries.

More than 80 percent of the Belarusian people can’t speak Belarusian and don’t even know Belarusian cultural traditions.

For three centuries, Belarus has been under the Russian political influence. Poland, Ukraine, Moldova and the Baltic States have faced the same experience Belarus had in being a Russian puppet state. These regions have struggled for centuries in maintaining their independence from Russians hegemony.

Many people in these regions never asked to be Russified and governed by Russia, it was forced on them by Russian military aggression.

With the current conflict in Ukraine, the leaders in the Kremlin won’t allow the Ukrainian people to decide what's best for their future. They will try to stir up wars and conflicts like what they did in Moldova.

RT News claims the US and Western Europe is responsible for NATO and EU expansion. It’s not the US and Western Europe that expanded NATO and the EU, the people of Eastern Europe and the Baltic States wanted to join NATO and the EU. Many of the reasons why they made that decision was because of Russian hegemony and aggression.

In fact, there was a time when the leaders of Belarus wanted to create a BBSC organisation to defend Eastern Europe from a potential Russian aggression.

Many news outlets never fully covered the reason why the USSR collapse. They never discussed the experience non-Russian people had in being Russified or the atrocities.

When people started to discover about the atrocity of Kurapaty or how regions of the Baltic States, Moldova, Poland and Ukraine became Russified, that was when they wanted to break away from the USSR. When the public discovered the grave sites and learned about the purges, they thought they were being exterminated.

The Russification in some areas of Eastern Europe has created a huge sentiment for people who never embrace it.

Many Russian News outlets portray Russia as being a victim of western aggression, but they never present how their leaders use their military force in suppressing and preventing their neighbouring countries from being independent. They love to have puppet states bordering them. They have had this political geographic system for centuries. They had this system during the Tsar era, Soviet era and now they are trying to re-establish this system again.

Forget all these anachronistic identities in terms of nation states/cultures and embrace class conscious socialist globalism – the only relevent identity for the 21st century.

Nationalism, patriotism, ethnics, national pride, culture pride, races, flags,  etc, etc, they are all social poison used by the ruling elite of the world to keep us divided. We need a world socialist consciousness to overthrow this economical system, and apart us from all those superfluous ideas

You sound like Marx at his most paranoid over the belief he held that Tsarist Russia wanted to rule the world and had been scheming for centuries to achieve this and that it still was in his day; that Lord Palmerston, the British Prime Minister was a Russian spy and other such nonsense. Most of the statelets created in  Middle Europe after the breakup of the Russian, German and Austro-Hungarian in WW1,  all with minorities speaking a language of at least one one of the others, were so weak that they were bound to be dominated by either Russia or Germany, as they were by one or the other in the course of the last century. Now it's Germany (the EU) again. Socialists don't need to take sides in this, only the ruling elites in the states concerned do.

So what? They are humans who happen to speak Russian as their mother-tongue and shouldn't be forced to speak some other language just to bolster some so-called "nation state" in the interests of its ruling class. And I bet that in this case the other 20% can, and probably do, all speak Russian, so what's the problem?

http://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/education/depth-articles/socialist-writers/rosa-luxemburg-and-national-questionIn this article written by the Socialist Party,  we are analyzing the stand taken by Rosa Luxembourg in regard to the National Question, and it shows that Marx was mistaken, and Luxembourg was correct on her allegations. It does show that Engels was not the one only that made mistakes, Marx did it too, and we can not take their writing as something written on stones. We must be critical
