Article: ‘Why I Joined the SPGB’, written by J.C. Gormley, November 1975Comment from the Socialist Standard Past & Present blog”The Rushcroft Road, which is mentioned in the article, was a popular outdoor speaking pitch in Brixton, South London in the interwar years.I’m not sure if it was an SPGB in-joke or that Gormley simply misremembered but the ‘From Slavery to Freedom’ pamphlet he mentions purchasing at the Rushcroft Road meeting was in fact a pamphlet published by the Socialist Propagandist League, a group which had split from the SPGB way back in 1911 – over the issues of reforms – and, according to the SPL’s wiki page, the pamphlet received a withering review within the pages of the Socialist Standard:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Propaganda_League “
