Patriotism is not love of your country. Patriotism is love for someone else’s country. You see, the earth and its resources are owned by a tiny minority. For example , 84 people – a mere bus full – owns more wealth than half the world's population put together. The UK and its resources are owned by a few families – it is their country and not ours.
There are thousands of ex-military, some without limbs, that have come back from fighting for 'their' country and they are homeless and hungry. In fact most who come back from Iraq and Afghanistan have nothing. This is because they have been fighting and dying for a country they do not own. This goes for every country in the world.
The World Socialist Movement asks not for patriotism but instead we ask that workers of the world cease fighting each other and instead take the earth into common ownership. Without countries there will be no need for patriotism and war.
On the bright side, a recent survey has revealed that only 1 in 4 people in Britain would be prepared to go to war for 'their' country. A university professor of war studies thinks this is largely to do with people being less willing to trust authority and what their governments tell them.A step in the right direction, at least, though the global average of people who'd be willing to go to war is apparently 60 percent.

The first and only Patriotic Socialist Party Councillor is now a Marxist and has applied to join the SPGB.
Is he a councillor for somewhere near Damascus and has been there recently? But there is someone with his name who's one in a place called … "Wittering".
