WORLD SOCIALIST PARTY (NEW ZEALAND) – General Administrative Committee
Meeting held via telephone at 51 Weymouth Road, Manurewa and 15 Tanera Crescent, Wellington
DATE: Sunday 7 July 2013.
CHAIRPERSON: M Grayson. Moved M Gribble, 2nd C Matene.
OPEN: 2:25pm.
PRESENT: (Committee) A Coombs, M Grayson, M Gribble, T Lovatt, C Matene.
(Members) G Coffey, V Lovatt, J Ryder, C Robertson (arrived 2:55pm).
APOLOGIES: None.
PREVIOUS MINUTES/ERRORS & OMISSIONS:
Previous minutes read. M Gribble moved the minutes be accepted, 2nd T Lovatt.
DISCUSSION ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES:
1. Winning essay read out by M Grayson. Winner of the essay competition was Akshaay Ananth from Alfriston.
2. Bonus bonds – 2 signatures are required from WSPNZ trustees before registering any bonus bonds for an organisation. All members present agree that the signatories for registering the bonus bonds should be the treasurer M Gribble and the general secretary C Matene. Amount decided upon to invest is $3000.
CORRESPONDENCE:
1. Email received from Tristan Miller regarding the essay writing competition. They would like to know the outcome of the competition and any conclusions. If there are any interesting essays are there any copyright issues involved with publishing these.
2. Socialist Party Canada – Newsletter for July received via email.
3. SPC – Copy of “Imagine” publication received.
4. Send email to Akshaay Ananth – ask for permission to publish his essay. Permission was already granted to publish his essay on http://www.geocities.ws/nzsocialists.
M Grayson moved the correspondence be received, all members present in favour.
LITERATURE SECRETARY’S REPORT:
Socialist Standards for July arrived yesterday and will be posted to subscribers ASAP. Subscriptions for the Socialist Standard are still outstanding.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
M Gribble presented the treasurer’s report. Provisional tax for the past 12 months paid. M Gribble moved the treasurer’s report be accepted, all members present in favour.
GENERAL BUSINESS:
1. Still having issues with logging into the WSPNZ website. Contact the SPGB Internet Committee for assistance.
2. Discussion on circulating the Socialist idea in schools, universities and other learning institutions.
