Four comrades did the stall at the environment fair in Carshalton, south of London, on Bank Holiday Monday. It was more political than we expected and we had a number of interesting conversations with ex and current Labour Party members and others. We covered the cost of booking the stall and also had an advert with our email and website in the official programme for an extra £10. We should definitely go back next year.

Even the Labour Party stall next to us was all red.Had I'd gone anarchist it would have been a completely black flag. A completely red flag, on the other hand, has too many connotations as the latter part of your comment above illustrates. The red and black flag goes from bottom left to top right, with red on top and black on bottom. The red is the red of communism, and symbolises material equality in relation to the means of life, or the principle of from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs. The black is the black of anarchy, a free society without rulers. Together red and black symbolise libertarian communism. It runs diagonally as a negation of nationalism and as a reaffirmation of a world-wide community. The Party should adopt these colours.
August 28, 2013 at 10:47 am #95920Young Master SmeetModeratorI didn't know you were there: I went along to see a mate's band. Obviously, didn't look at enough stalls…
August 28, 2013 at 11:03 am #95921jondwhiteParticipantWhere is the red and black flag? Obviously our flags weren't big enough if YMS missed us.
August 28, 2013 at 11:17 am #95922ALBKeymasterIf you'd bought a programme, YMS, you'd have seen our mention:

August 28, 2013 at 8:10 pm #95927ALBKeymasterIt's the red flag not the black-and-red flag that's shrouded oft our martyred dead. Let's not repudiate our past !

Let's not repudiate our past !It's not our past but the Left's and in particular Old Labour's and the Communist Party of Britain and SPEW hacks we encountered at the Miners' Festival on Monday who want to "keep the red flag flying here". Clause Four, they cry; nationalisation under workers' control, etc. I'm more than content to repudiate that past. Anyway, this thread has throughly gone off-topic.
August 28, 2013 at 11:26 pm #95929ALBKeymasterNext, you'll be saying we should surrender the word "socialism" to them too?

You have a short memory; I was at the forefront opposing those who wanted, and to some extent succeeded, in decimating the Party's full name. However, if there was an alternative word which might better assist us in the struggle to end capitalism I wouldn't have that many qualms. I don't harbour any particular nostaglia for descriptions, colours or much else really. If there's something you and others wish to get off your chests about colours, Party names or what have you, why not start a separate thread? Now is the time especially when the sub-committee responsible is in the process of making a decision about the new shop front sign.
August 29, 2013 at 8:57 am #95931ALBKeymasterWe may as well continue here as it's started. It's only a side-show anyway. In the meantime I've come across a rather disturbing thing about the combination of the colours black and read:http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_do_the_colors_on_the_Nazi_flag_symbolize"Blut und Boden (blood and soil)". I think you should change your atavar double quick ! And I don't think we should have this combination of colours on our Head Office fascia in case someone mistakes us for the Great British Socialist Party.
