    LECTURE – William Morris

    R.Blumenau

    £15

Wednesday 31st July at the Idler Academy, 81 Westbourne Park Road

Doors open 6.30pm, lecture starts at 7pm.

William Morris (1834 to 1896) was a many-sided Romantic genius, working indefatigably as an artist, a poet, an essayist, novelist and journalist, a craftsman in many media from furniture to book production, a passionate advocate of the dignity of labour, an enemy of the capitalist market in all its manifestations, an eloquent socialist activist, and a lovely human being who could in many ways be described as a patron saint of the Idler Academy.

The lecture will be given by Ralph Blumenau, who returns to The Idler by popular demand. He has been described by The Independent as “a star lecturer” at the University of the Third Age in London and was Head of History at Malvern College until his retirement in 1985.
