Whoever becomes president; capitalism will continue with its poverty, homelessness and hunger for many Americans. It’s not a new president that is needed but a new economic system.

I remember shortly before the US presidential election when Obama got elected president. I was having a second round of physiotherapy for a ruptured achilles tendon (two years earlier). My physiotherapist seemed quite exited at the prospect of a African American US president being elected. So exited in fact, he intended to stay up and watch it.When I enquired as to why he should be so exited, given the fact that the presidents skin colour would make no difference to the running of the american establishment and so be of little use to the average american, he was unable to explain. Yet still he maintained a high degree of excitement at the looming historical event.I wonder if he is still as exited now?

Over the past months our blog Socialism Or Your Money Back has posted repeated criticisms of the theory of the lesser evil. In the present campaign it reared its ugly head by those who wanted Ron Paul nominated as the Republican candidate and to win the election – liberals and libertarians holding handsNo doubt your physio would have also been just as excited if it had been Hillary Clinton, the first woman president elected. The media hyped up Obama's colour, they would have no doubt hyped up Clinton's gender. If elected, i half-expect Romney's religion to become more highlighted. At the moment they are hesitant to expose the fantasy world of Mormonism. Mind you, its not any more far fetched than mainstream christianity!

The main reason that it makes no difference is that politicians and governments do not, and cannot, control the way the capitalist economy works. They have to navigate by sight in the face of what the capitalist economy throws up and so can do no more than react to how the economy moves. This quite apart from the fact that their remit to govern in the overall interest of the capitalist class. In fact, far from them controlling the way capitalism works, it's the other way round. That's why Obama failed to honour his promises. Listening to the extracts from Romney's speeches reported over here, he seems to be making extravagant promises claiming that he personally can turn the American capitalist economy round and create millions of new jobs. I don't whether he is dishonest or stupid. Probably both, not that it makes any difference as not even a saint could control capitalism or make it work in the interest of all. Come to think of it, he  thinks he is a saint, even if a Latter Day one.

Just remembered. The first speaker in this video, from a party political broadcast by the Socialist Labor Party of America in the 1956 Presidential elections (in which Eisenhower beat egghead Adlai Stevenson), says it all:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iulqp9xlCFg&feature=relmfuPity nobody seems to be saying it this time.

While it is understandable to a certain extent why some people should have voted for Obama what is utterly incomprehensible is why so many should have voted for Romney, a self-satisfield capitalist who has made no attempt to disguise his disdain for the workers. A sad reflection of the low level of political consciousness amongst workers in America I suppose.

http://willyloman.wordpress.com/2012/11/07/2004-george-w-bush-beats-barack-obamas-2012-numbers-mandate/Willy Loman, aka Scott Creighton posts some interesting stuff, style a bit 'in your face' but over time he's proved to be pretty accurate in his forecasts/opinions. Today's post, above, reveals the numbers, low turn-out (Obama actually got approx 25% of possible vote – less than G W Bush in 2004), comparisons with previous elections etc. One thing he does point to is the obvious apathy/disinterest/turn-off of voters in general. They know they're being screwed right, left and centre – and don't know what they can do about it.Evil is evil, there's no 'lesser' about it!
