I’d like to begin a new thread about films we’d like to talk about. As socialists.

For a start, I’d like to talk about Saltburn in cinemas now.

This is a spoiler, so stop reading, but basically – my take on it – it’s about a working class lad who meets the upper class and wins the class struggle by killing them off. Much to our dismay and delight.

As I see it, the film feeds not only on the capitalist class’s righteous fear of the working class, but also the (non-socialist) notion that the only way to achieve reward as a worker is by individual endeavour.

Our protagonist achieves his reward in a most entertaining way. Albeit without a socialist bone in his body.

In that sense, it reminded me of the classic ‘Kind Hearts and Coronets’ even though that was a unique and different film.

I will try and attach a link to the trailer at this point, but knowing my luck it won’t work

    Paula
