A topic to express members’ thoughts on whether or not we are to expect militarily engineered annihilation before long.

    =======================

Christ, I hope not. I’ve got things to do still and places to visit.

All the more reason to vehemently oppose the putrid reactionary and divisive ideology of nationalism wherever it rears its ugly head. We, socialists, have not been very successful in advancing the cause of a sane society (as one nationalist troll, recently departed from this forum, delighted in pointing out). But at the end of the day, it is the only cause that makes any sense in a world gone mad. It is the only cause that will stop the warmongers in their tracks. Had we but the numbers to go with the intent.

There are some people on the same wavelength as us – the Leftcoms and some anarchists. However, most of the Left has either sold its soul to the devil and voiced its support either for Russian capitalism (the Stalinoids and their ilk) or else Ukrainian capitalism and by extension Western imperialism (people like Anti-capitalist Resistance, for example).

It is a truly pitiful state of affairs and worrying too. Nationalism is rampant everywhere…

    Thanks, Robbo. Agree absolutely.

What about Ekonomikos’ article in the Standard, which says world war is unlikely?

Something’s lurking around the corner – but it isn’t a world war

The Capitalist Class won’t consciously burn down their own playground. Surely?

Their bunkers are the size of cities. They have apartments for workers, servants; restaurants, etc., and artificial sunlight; gardens, etc.

What a disgusting virus we are upon this Earth.

65,000 nuclear bunkers prepared in Sweden (Underground Worlds, tonight on the Yesterday channel).

    300,000 bunkers in Switzerland.

The Wuhan ‘Flu showed us what the working-class does in an emergency – it clears the supermarket shelves of lavatory paper. Quite sensible really, considering what it will be doing when the four-minute warning sounds.

Not really, because we’ll never need any paper again.
Today’s nuclear missiles EACH have multiple warheads: that’s EACH ONE multiple thermo-nuclear bombs, thousands of times more powerful than what struck Hiroshima.
Nor would only one or two of these missiles be fired, but hundreds.

Safe to say, we would all, on these islands, be obliterated in seconds.

Strewth! TM and Chelmsford have really got it in for the working class. In an attempt to counter all this doom and gloom I can say that during the pandemic my medical conditions made it impossible to do many normal everyday things and I was pleased and surprised how many complete strangers offered me their help. And let’s not forget all those in the medical profession who risked their lives everyday to get us through the worst of it. So let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater – my generation survived the ‘Cuban Crisis’ and the many other dangerous cold war emergencies so we are somewhat used to this end of the world hysteria. Comrades, isn’t it incumbent on us to be a little more optimistic?

I really need to stop watching the news a little while: perhaps watch some classic Spitting Image instead- Brezhnev(?) and Reagan swapping brains!

Failing that, I can be cheered up by toilet paper runouts and nuclear sirens… stocks of working class loo paper will be highly regarded as the last thing we do will be marked by the need for lots of loo paper 🙂
Must admit. I have cheered up with the last 3 posts. Thank you comrades.
    I will remain positive.

I am in the same position, and believe me, I am not trying to instil pessimism. If I have, i’m sorry.
For me, cheering up is achieved with vintage movies and innocuous reading (from books, not screen), such as Raymond Chandler for now.

Editorial: Doom and gloom? Think again

I’ve gone through my Youtube history and deleted all doom and gloom channels. I’ve also deleted all doom and gloom Google searches, and am limiting my TV news to BBC red button.

You know I am rereading ‘Why History’ and the joys of history from a view of deconstruction!
It is both a distraction and a frustration 🙂
    My brain just atomised!
My Google is now being redirected to search social and cultural theory and positive ideas… yet the temptation to see what is going on and critique the world events and its cries of doom is still there!
