Alarming authoritarianism in France

The French are repeating the trick of using general rules to target Muslims, so lobbying Teachers not to teach a particular lesson could become an expulsion(!) offence. So much for all citizens being equal.
More concerning is a law against recording/photographing police officers, which will become a catch all excuse to take out photographers and journalists at demonstrations.

In some ways, the popularity of the Front National (10 million votes in the run-off, 1/3 of those who voted in the second round – notably, it looks like the 7 million votes in the first round for the left candidate of France Insoumise just didn’t turn up in the second round).
To tell the truth it’s a change to see a government face down the Islamists instead of rolling over and trying to present criticism of Islam as a religion as “islamophobia”. The BBC even refers to its founder as “the Prophet Mohammed” even though he was only a religious leader, merchant and warlord. I bet they don’t do that in France.
I think there is the added element of ethnicity in this, and the Arab citizens of France, who are “French” except when the government wants them to be so they can be deported.
The anti-filming of cops law is alarming, particularly.

Yes I am with YMS on this. The French cops are total bastards on a par with their American counterparts.
Oh technically yes, but not while they are gleefully and thugishly kicking the shit out of defenceless workers, imigrants and asylum seekers.

Apparently there fires at the bank of France.
Bottom line, this level of policing is expensive, officers have been hurt, and that costs the state in the long run, I don’t think this is sustainable.
Some reckoning 200K turned out to march.
