Something that is doing the rounds on one or two FB groups I’m on. I guess there is no tactic too low that you can’t stoop to when it comes to trying counter Marx and Marxism

I thought that was NewsThump, Dave but yeah this does have the whiff of fake news about it. I was not so much concerned with the Rothschilds connection (as a kid I was told we were descended from King Aldred the Great’s cousin – the geezer wot burnt the cakes – so I’m gonna claim my seat in the House of Lords) but with the reference to Marx being paid to undermine the socialist movement (an idea which might have originated with Bakunin)
I wouldn’t particularly worry too much except that this particularly claim has been quite widely circulated in Ancap and other circles in an effort to discredit Marx and the claim seems to have been made in several different publications, not just Newspunch

It’s probably quite likely that most of us, certainly in the West, are descended from King Alfred himself, not just his great-cousin!
Going back slightly further, it’s estimated that the most recent common ancestor of everyone alive today is only about 3,000 years ago. Sort of brings everything into perspective.

Indeed. If you use the services of something like MyHeritage.com you might be amazed by the results. My brother did it and discovered we have a whole bunch of second cousins in the US. My partner did it likewise – she is Spanish – and discovered that 10% of her ancestry comes from southern England
I believe the saliva samples are tested in Utah. Isn’t that where the Mormons are based. They are supposed to have the single largest database on people in the world

We are all related, and, if you held your mother’s hand, and she held her mother’s, in a line of only 500 miles, the last in the line wouldn’t be human. Follow the line forward again, parallel to yours, and you would be standing face to face with your present day chimpanzee cousin.
Sadly, in my family, you wouldn’t have to travel 500 miles to find a cousin who’s a chimpanzee, I’ve got several just like that, who live in Byker.
My sister did the family DNA thing, and to nobody’s great surprise, I come from a long line of work shy scum, who amounted to nothing. Glad to say, I’m keeping up the family tradition.
I have just made an important historical discovery: Eleanor Marx was the 4th cousin of the first Baron Rothschild. And vice versa of course. Not sure of the significance, though. Actually I am: None.
