    The once “radical” left out of office

    The “extreme” right out of parliament

    But “Greek Solution”, anti-migrant party,  steps in to the “right” vacuum

    New Democracy gaining 40 percent of the vote in Sunday’s snap election, compared with 31.5 for Syriza

    centre-left Movement for Change (KINAL), at 8.10 percent (22 seats);

    the Greek Communist Party, at 5.3 percent (15 seats);

    Greek Solution, a far-right party, at 3.7 percent (10 seats);

    and MeRa 25, another recently formed party that is led by Yanis Varoufakis, a former Syriza finance minister, at 3.44 percent (nine seats).

    The editorial in next month’s Socialist Standard is going to be on this entitled “Syriza : A Textbook Failure” ie a leftwing government is elected to reverse austerity, is forced to recognise capitalist reality, and is booted out at the next election.  As we know will happen to a Corbyn government (if one is ever elected). When will they ever learn?

    I just read a progressive website article that claims MeRa 25’s  3.4% was  “far exceeding expectations” and a “strong performance” despite that its vote was less than the Greek Solution and the Communist Party.

    Clutching at left-wing straws.

    No, I don’t think they do learn. They set themselves up for failure, often as a self-fulfilling prediction

    Peoples continue electing, selecting and placing in power their own enemies, and like a pendulum oscillating between right and left. They do not learn from past history
