We witness the arrest and extradition process of Huawei executive for breaching American sanctions. What will happen now to the new EU apparatus to by-pass the US embargos
Germany, France and the UK have set up a payment channel with Iran called INSTEX (short for “Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges), to help continue trade and circumvent US sanctions. INSTEX will be based in Paris and will be managed by German banking expert Per Fischer, a former manager at Commerzbank. The UK will head the supervisory board.
Are international warrants to be issued for their arrest?
“As the president has made clear, entities that continue to engage in sanctionable activity involving Iran risk severe consequences that could include losing access to the U.S. financial system and the ability to do business with the United States or US companies,” the State Department said in a statement.
The EU has imposed its own set of sanctions this month over Iran’s missile tests and assassination plots.
